About St. Mary School

Founded in 1885

Accredited by the State of Ohio through the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association

St. Mary is a private, parochial school located in Delaware, Ohio, just 12 miles north of the Franklin County line.  St. Mary was founded in 1885 and occupied a small house adjacent to the church.  The present school was built in 1925 and expanded in 1959 and in 2005.  Currently we support 375 students in grades K through 8 and a preschool program that enrolls 65 students on average.  With the addition in 2005, we are able to offer two classrooms in every grade level with the exception of grades 3 and 8 in the 2010-11 school year, which has one classroom.  St. Mary offers a morning and afternoon Kindergarten class.  Our goal is to maintain an average class size of 25 -30 students.  The average class size at this time is approximately 25 students.

Our faculty consists of 15 classroom teachers, 4 full time aids, a librarian, a computer teacher, a physical education teacher, a reading teacher, an intervention specialist, a music teacher and a band teacher.  We also have a part time nurse, an educational psychologist and a speech therapist one day a week.

A new program started in the 2009-10 school year is the school-aged child care (SACC) program.  Children attending St. Mary K through 8 may participate in this after school care program.

Our mission statement explains our total dedication to Catholic education for each family.  It states:  St. Mary Catholic Elementary School, working together with our families as a supportive, caring Catholic community, strives to develop and enhance the spiritual, educational, personal, physical and social growth of our students.  We are dedicated to celebrating and serving each student's diverse needs in a challenging, educational Catholic environment.
