St. Mary School's Principal

It is my honor to be a part of the St. Mary community and serve as the Principal of St. Mary School.  My name is Ryan Schwieterman and I am a product of schools within the Diocese of Columbus.  I attended St. Michael School during the 5th-8th grade and then attended Bishop Watterson High School.  While at Bishop Watterson, I was a 3-year Varsity tennis player and played golf for one season.

I also was fortunate to attend a week long service opportunity in Appalachia. The education I received greatly prepared me for my collegiate years where I attended the University of Dayton, a Catholic Marianist University.  I majored in Middle Childhood Education with a focus on grades 4-9 Science and Social Studies. While at the University of Dayton, I was involved with the crew (rowing) team, was a Resident Assistant for three years, and participated in a Spring Break service trip

my junior year to the Dominican Republic working with locals to build an eco-tourism facility in the Cloud Mountains. That summer, I studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland at Trinity College taking education and history courses while being fortunate enough to travel around Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland for the British Open.  After spending four great years at UD, I returned to St. Michael's where I taught 7th and 8th grade Science and 8th grade Reading.  I also coached the JV girls and boys tennis teams at Bishop Watterson for several years.  While teaching, I received my Master's in Educational Leadership, again from the University of Dayton, and began pursuing my goal of becoming a school Principal.  I am lucky to have found such a welcoming community to begin this phase of my professional career.

Outside of education and school, I enjoy traveling, the outdoors, and officiating high school athletics.  While I've been fortunate to have been in Ireland, Scotland, and the Dominican Republic twice, I'm excited about what travel the future may hold.  The summer and fall months are my favorites as I enjoy playing golf while trying to stay a step ahead of the weeds in the backyard!  As fall arrives, one of my favorite hobbies, officiating, begins.  In the fall I am an OHSAA and NCAC Football official and an OHSAA Field Hockey official.  During the winter I officiate boys and girls high school basketball.  Don't be surprised if you see me at school and then on the field or on the court at a sporting event.

I hope this short biography helps you get to know me better.  I enjoy walking the halls and stopping in the classrooms to talk to the students and get a first hand look at what they are learning.  I look forward to getting to know the students and their families as the year progresses.
