Our school choir will be singing at the 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. Mary on Sunday, October 18. This will be their first performance outside of our school Masses, which is very exciting! We would love to have our school families come and support them.
Their next parish Mass will be the 4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass.
Our music for morning and afternoon prayer will also change during October and November.
Morning Prayer: Ave Maria
For morning prayer, we will sing the Ave Maria chant setting. It is simple, beautiful, and a wonderful piece for our students to learn.

We have been working with the students on singing it together in preparation for Thursday.
For those interested in learning more, this article gives some fascinating background on the Hail Mary, the development of the text, and its use in chant during the medieval period:

Afternoon Prayer: Godhead Here in Hiding
For afternoon prayer, we will sing Godhead Here in Hiding, a beautiful Eucharistic meditation. Students sang this hymn in Latin last year, so the melody should already be familiar.

The text is attributed to St. Thomas Aquinas, and this beautiful English translation was written by Gerard Manley Hopkins, a Catholic priest and one of the most distinctive poets of the Victorian period.
