7th/8th Grade Confirmation Prep

St. Mary School provides a rich, wholistic Sacrament preparation experience. This is offered in different ways for our School and PSR students. For school students, the formation experience is mostly incorporated into their academic formation at St. Mary School. Students grow in a life of holiness and virtue through our Virtue of the Week program, a variety of religious topics through Theology Classes and weekly human formation class, and engage in restful religious experiences such as spending time in Adoration, attending all school Masses, and praying with Scripture. St. Mary School students are also welcome (but not required) to attend PSR Confirmation class sessions with other confirmands.

Requirements for the Sacrament of Confirmation:

  1. Mass Attendance – The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the source and summit of our Faith. We require our confirmands to attend weekly Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
  2. Service Hours – In preparation for receiving Confirmation, our students are encouraged to grow in a life of service to others, as Christ called His disciples. Our confirmands are required to complete 15 hours of service.
  3. Choosing a Saint – Confirmands will prayerfully discern a Confirmation Saint that will become their patron. Confirmands will choose a Saint and will be expected to complete a project to learn more about their Saint of choice, which will also be a graded project in 8th Grade Theology Class.
  4. Sponsor – Confirmands will choose a sponsor. Per Code of Canon Law, sponsors must be active, practicing Catholics above 16 years old, and not the parent of the child.
  5. Retreat – Confirmands will attend a weekend retreat experience at Damascus Catholic Mission Campus to spend time with the Lord in prayer and community before receiving the Sacrament.
  6. Readiness Meeting – Confirmands will meet one-on-one with Father for a check-in and to express their readiness and desire to receive Confirmation.
