SPO April Meeting Minutes

The St. Mary School Parish Organization (SPO) is a volunteer parent-run organization that provides social and monetary support to the students, faculty, and staff of St. Mary Delaware Elementary School. Our purpose is to enrich the educational experience and sense of community for all students. The SPO will accomplish its purpose through committee initiatives and fundraising while striving to make SPO rewarding and fostering a sense of inclusion and community. 

Meeting Summary

Old Business:

  • Spring Flower Sale: Exceeded goal with a profit of $2,643.
  • Laundry Baskets: Status update needed.
  • DC Trip: Trip was successful, with great participation from both kids and adults. Positive feedback on the shirts, tour company, and timing with the Cherry Blossom Festival. Fundraising efforts appreciated, with plans to start fundraising for 5th/6th graders. Subledger for DC Trip Fundraising will be reviewed.

New Business:

  • ByLaws Review: Members to review and suggest changes.
  • Officers for 2025-2026: Notify SPO by April 25th if interested in a position; voting to take place at the May 6th meeting.
  • PGC Update: In-house training still pending; online training available.
  • Spring Flower Sale Pickup: Scheduled for April 24th, parking lot reserved.
  • Grace Scholarship Fundraiser: Meza delivery on April 24th; Charcuterie & Wine Date Night bundle offered for $75.
  • Spaghetti Dinner: Tabled until next year (Jan/Feb).
  • Falconry Visit: Scheduled for April 25th at 1pm; potential date change to May 23rd.
  • Service Project: Diaper Drive for Pregnancy Resource Center; diapers to be bundled and labeled.
  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week: May 5th-9th; IVolunteer needs will be posted.
  • African Culture (Cameroon) Day: May 13th; volunteers needed.
  • Field Day: Scheduled with 5 stations; various activities planned, including water balloon toss and dunk tank. Volunteers needed for towels and other logistics. No Field Day shirts for students this year.
  • 8th Grade Graduation: Reception to include cake, punch, and charcuterie boards. Yard signs and photos to be arranged.
  • Kindergarten Graduation: May 29th at 1:30pm; light treats requested.

    • Father/Daughter Dance: $361.57 (Tara), $80.00 (Ashley)
    • Pancake Day: $43.50 (Milk), $1,018.00 (Chris Cakes)
    • Total Expenditures: $1,503.07

Volunteer Requirements for St. Mary:

  1. Attend PGC session (online option available).
  2. Complete BCI&I and/or FBI background check.
  3. Submit Volunteer Application (online).
  4. Complete Code of Conduct form (annually).

Future Business:

  • Children at Meetings: Children are welcome to attend meetings.
  • Turkey/Ham Bingo Fundraiser: Consider for 2025-2026 school year.
  • Salsa Fundraiser: To be sold at the St. Mary Festival.
  • Breakfast with Santa: Set for December 7th. Snowball Express planned for December 7-9.

School Requests: None reported at this time.
