My name is Senora Burke and I am excited to be the Spanish teacher for grades 1st – 8th. Here is a little bit of my story.
I am originally from Ecuador, from a city called Cuenca. It is the 3rd biggest city of my country with beautiful Spanish colonial churches and amazing architecture and rich culture. I came to the US in 1999 after I graduated from the University of Azuay. A little after that I traveled to the US to learn English with an interchange program. I fell in love and after a few years, married my husband Brad From Michigan State. Go Green!
We have two beautiful children, Mateo is 15 years old and my daughter is 8. We also have 2 beautiful dogs, Marley and Sparty.
I taught Spanish at Broadus Wood Elementary school in Earlysville, Virginia for a couple of years (1st to 5th grade).
I also did a lot of mission work in Ecuador and traveled to very remote areas of Ecuador to evangelize and teach schools in very rural areas.
I worked for 15 years for a student travel agency called Worldstrides, and had the opportunity to travel to Europe and many other Spanish speaking countries. This allowed me to learn hands-on the beauty of different cultures and the importance of being bilingual, not only to travel but in all aspects of my daily life.
